SUMMARY:Plateau and Sugarloaf Mountains
DESCRIPTION:Our Catskill social series continues on May 7 with this moderately long\, but very challenging hike to Plateau and Sugarloaf mountains.  The hike includes steep climbing and some scrambling on the famous “Devil’s Path” trail.  The distance we’ll hike is a bit short of 6 miles\, but the total ascent of roughly 2850 feet is over some rough trail where the downhill is no easier than the uphill.   The deciduous trees will probably not have leafed out yet\, but the ephemeral spring wildflowers should be abundant.  \n\n\n\nThis hike is being presented in conjunction with the Adirondack Mountain Club and the Catskill 3500 Club. We strongly encourage you to consider joining these worthy organizations. \n\n\n\nContact Ed to reserve your spot. SUMMARY:Westkill Mountain
DESCRIPTION:October’s featured Catskill Social Series hike is West Kill Mountain.Westkill Mountain is the 6th highest peak in the Catskills and the highest point on the Devil’s Path trail (nearby Hunter Mountain is taller but the trail doesn’t pass over it’s summit). This trek is a great introduction to the Devil’s path on one of the gentler sections of the famous trail.   \n\n\n\nJoin us on as we hike past waterfalls and great views to the evergreen clad summit.This is a mostly moderate hike despite the lofty summit at less than an arms length shy of 3900 feet. Along the way we’ll hike to the pastoral 3465 foot summit of Millbrook Ridge and the stunning views from the fire tower on 3729 foot peak of Balsam Lake Mountain. This is a 9 mile hike with 2400 feet of elevation gain and we will hike at a moderate to quick pace. \n\n\n\nThis hike is being presented in conjunction with the Adirondack Mountain Club and the Catskill 3500 Club. SUMMARY:Fir and Big Indian Mountain
DESCRIPTION:This one has everything; trails\, water crossings\, and miles of bushwhacking in remote wilderness.  For adventurous and fit hikers\, we’ll cover 10.5 miles and 2700 feet of elevation gain to find the canisters on the summits of Fir and Big Indian Mountains.  The stretch between Fir and Big Indian is one of my favorites where the navigation can be tricky\, even with the presence of herd paths. \n\n\n\nThis hike is being presented in conjunction with the Catskill 3500 Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club. DESCRIPTION:June 17 update: This hike is being canceled/postponed due to the expected heatwave. \n\n\n\nOur June social series hike is to Table and Peekamoose Mountains on Wednesday June 19. This is a strenuous hike of about 10 miles with plenty of elevation gain in both directions. Both peaks are over 3800 feet in elevation with some noticeable dips and bumps on the way.
