SUMMARY:National Trails Day Social Hike LI
DESCRIPTION:Join us on National Trails Day for a fun hike I am leading for the Adirondack Mountain Club in Sunken Meadow State Park on the north shore of Long Island. \n\n\n\nThis hike will include the famous bluffs as well as trails in parts of the park that most people never visit. It will be a moderately strenuous hike as we will cover 6.5 miles and 1100 feet of elevation gain while aiming for a pace of around 2 mph. The hills and remote feel of the trails (despite being close to roads and homes) provide an experience reminiscent of Harriman State Park. Some of the hills are steep and there are a couple of spots that feature tricky footing. Dress for the weather\, wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots and bring at least a liter of water. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor registration details\, see the ADK Long Island Website \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore questions? SUMMARY:Bearpen and Vly Mountains - Social Series
DESCRIPTION:Our June social series hike will be to Bearpen and Vly Mountains.  Considered trail-less summits\, these will feel very much like trailed hikes.  After an interesting hike to the summit canister on Vly Mountain\, we’ll proceed to Bearpen Mountain where we’ll enjoy some unique views of the Schoharie Valley\, as well as remains from an abandoned ski area near the summit.  The hike is a workout at 6.5 miles and nearly 2100 feet of elevation gain\, but much of the climbing is relatively gentle compared to most Catskill high peaks. \n\n\n\nThis hike is being presented in conjunction with the Catskill 3500 Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club. We strongly encourage you to join one or both of these clubs. \n\n\n\nContact Ed to reserve your spot on this fun\, but challenging hike.
