Our November social series hike returns to Balsam Lake Mountain and it’s iconic fire tower. At 3729 feet elevation, Balsam lake Mountain is the 14th highest on the Catskill 3500 list. The fire tower is also part of both the Catskills Fire Tower Challenge and the ADK Fire Tower Challenge. This hike of 6 miles with 1250 feet of elevation gain will follow one of the least strenuous routes to a Catskill high peak and may be suitable for fit beginners. Much of the hike is on an old woods road with a gradual, but steady ascent. Will we have early season snow and ice or a beautiful fall day? Too soon to tell but be ready with appropriate gear.
This hike is being presented in conjunction with the Catskill 3500 Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club. We strongly encourage you to join one or both of these clubs.
