Join us on National Trails Day for a fun hike I am leading for the Adirondack Mountain Club in Sunken Meadow State Park on the north shore of Long Island.
This hike will include the famous bluffs as well as trails in parts of the park that most people never visit. It will be a moderately strenuous hike as we will cover 6.5 miles and 1100 feet of elevation gain while aiming for a pace of around 2 mph. The hills and remote feel of the trails (despite being close to roads and homes) provide an experience reminiscent of Harriman State Park. Some of the hills are steep and there are a couple of spots that feature tricky footing. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots and bring at least a liter of water.
