Fir and Big Indian are two of the trail-less peaks on the Catskill 3500 list. Both summits have canisters containing a sign-in log book. This all-day hike will cover 11 miles with 2600 feet of elevation gain and includes water crossings (which are usually low in August). We’ll have fun navigating several miles of off-trail wilderness, but the final miles downhill on the trail usually seem longer for some reason. We’ll need to keep a steady pace to complete this hike in the allotted time. This is a challenging hike.
This hike is being presented in conjunction with the Adirondack Mountain Club. We strongly encourage you to consider joining the ADK.
