The Blackhead Range is a prominent landmark in the northern Catskills and it’s three main peaks are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th highest of the Catskill 3500. In fact, an average height person standing on the summit of Black Dome Mountain is breathing 4000 foot air. We’ll summit all three (Black Dome, Blackhead, and Thomas Cole on this 8 mile trail hike with almost 3000 feet of elevation gain.
This hike can be challenging for people unaccustomed to hiking in the mountains and you’ll need to carry plenty of drinking water.
