Kaaterskill High Peak (social series)

Our July Catskill social series hike is Kaaterskill High Peak. KHP was once thought to be the highest peak in the Catskills because of the prominence of some of the views from the Hudson Valley and because local Hotel owners promoted the peak in their backyard as the biggest and the best. It’s actually the 23rd highest of the 35 Catskill high peaks.  However, Kaaterskill High Peak (aka “High Peak”) ranks fourth in prominence among Catskill peaks and has steep sides that can be difficult.

This 6 mile hike with just under 2000 feet of elevation gain is part on trail and part bushwhack to the reach the summit canister.  The bushwhack part gets steep and rough. Check out the photos from a previous social series hike (during winter) to Kaaterskill High Peak:
