Hunter Mountain Firetower – March 21, 2015

We led a small group to the Hunter Mountain fire tower on the last day of calendar winter. For M, this counted towards his winter 3500 list. It was a beautiful day for a hike, sunny at times, cloudy at others, but always clear enough for great views from the rime encrusted tower.

20150321Hunter-022s400We hiked via the steep Becker Hollow trail from Route 214, although the still deep snow cover made the snowshoeing relatively easy on a well packed trail. We saw lots of animal tracks, including some that we identified as likely belonging to a bobcat. On our way down we took advantage of the soft snow and channeled our inner child to do some fun glissading.
